I just use standard seed trays and pots with drainage holes for starting seeds and small pots or module trays to prick out into depending on the size of the seedlings (bigger pots for chunky things like courgettes) and some trays without holes to stand them in because I raise them in the house on the windowsills. Nothing special.

Sorry if I'm being thick @Deveshmittal.devesh - but do you mean you're sowing the seed itself into a tray of water, as @StephenSouthwest described, or do you mean the method I described? I basically do the same as @JennyJ does, and I use those plastic meat trays you get from the supermarket to sit pots in, as they fit better on windowsills than 'proper' seed trays. I also empty yogurt pots for individual pots to sit inside. I can't see the advantage of the other method, although Stephen seems to find it good for bigger seed.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I don't think it's a good idea to have pots/trays of seedlings standing in water because they could get too soggy, particularly newly pricked-out seedlings that don't have much root. Sitting in a load of cold wet compost isn't ideal. If you're worried about them drying out because you're away for a while, maybe use capillary matting. Otherwise just water when they need it. I find it helps to put a transparent propagator top over newly pricked-out stuff for a few days until they get settled and start growing away (the air in my house is probably drier than in a greenhouse).
