clematis wilt on Jackmanii
I planted a Jackmanii about four years ago, and for the past two, maybe even three years, it suffered from clematis wilt. It has always recovered but the plant has been severely checked in its growth. It's looking lovely and healthy at the moment but I am sure disaster will strike again. I am idly wondering whether I should remove the plant this autumn and replace it after a year's break to see if any spores around will die out, or replant it in another position (not even sure if clematis will replant anyway). I put an upturned plastic bottle at the roots to make sure it wasn't too dry and I feed it but I fear these precautions wont really help. Any advice. It is on the same pergola as a macropetala Wesselton which is unaffected. Thoughts? Thank you all

The bigger flowered ones are more susceptible, although not all of them. I had the same problem with Niobe, which is my favourite clematis, and the new growth it produced earlier this year was eaten by slugs, so it's gone and I'll be taking out anything that's there -roots etc.
There's no cure for it.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
