A few years ago we had reds under the paving up one end of the path and blacks down the other. The nests were getting closer and closer. Antmageddon😧
Well, maybe. Both nests disappeared. Maybe they have more sense than humans.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

Our next door neighbours must have an infestation as we noticed that they’ve put the ant powder all round the perimeter / edges of their house and garage. Looks as if they’re maybe getting inside the house.
Touching wood, I haven’t seen any here ….. yet.

I leave black ants alone, but red ants (called 'fire ants' in the US) are another story. They get a dose of Amdro. It's an invasive species from South America, and I have scars on my legs from getting bitten as a child.

Yes they have a nasty bite do the red ones . We get  them in the lawns here in north Bucks but more prevalent are the black and flying ones . We just put powder down and move them on . They always come back the next year . My mother used to kill them by pouring boiling water on the nest . ! Not very nice !

Thankfully, although irritating, the red ants in the UK are a very different kettle of fish indeed to the Red Fire Ants in the USA 🐜  😊

I have a couple of nests in the front lawn edges, I unwittingly dig them up and mow their mounds occasionally, but they've never bothered me when I'm sat weeding. Only black ants in the back, they churn up the undersoil nicely.
I'm glad we haven't got fire ants in the UK!
@bcpathome yes my mum did that too. 😦
