Any tips to help my Salix Flamingo please?

Hi everyone. We had to move our two year old (with us) salix flamingo because it was overshadowing all the plants round it.
We dug very carefully and got out as much of the (large) root as we could. This was about the end of March.
There were a few little leaves coming through. We replanted in a nice deep, well fed hole and it rained a lot so it was well watered. We cut it back too, but now there is no life at all.  I expected it to go into shock tbh, but it looks like the buds that were coming have just shrivelled and died.
Do you think it will recover and do you have any tips to help it come back from the shock? I'd hate to lose it as it was a gift.
Thank you in advance

You really needed to water it regularly after it was moved.  Hopefully it will recover.

Thank you, I hope so too. It really did rain constantly after we moved it so we thought that was enough 😔. Do they ever kind of go dormant to recover?
