Penstemon query

Vh72Vh72 Posts: 127
I had about 8 penstemon plants last year.  None are showing any new shoots so far.  Should they be sprouting by now or are they all dead.

I have some showing, some not. Time will tell.

Did you cut them back at the end of the season or this spring?

A lot of penstemon have perished this winter, I would expect some signs of life by now

Mine are dead, but the cuttings overwintered in a cold g/h are fine.

Not all of them are fully hardy, in any winter,  depending on your location, so you may have lost them.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Much more reliable in the south. P Garnet has survived in a neighbours garden here over winter, one of the more hardy forms.

I even lost Garnet this winter.

Thanks for all the replies.  I cut them back in this spring.  Just spoken to my sister who lives nearby and both of hers are dead.

Some of mine have the odd frail looking leaf so I'm hoping for the best. A blue one -  not sure if it's sour grapes or heavenly blue has romped away with world domination in mind.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

Mine are ok, one or two are only just greening up though.
