Hebe help?

Hi,
We have several hebe's growing in our garden and a number of them have turned brown over the winter.
Some of them still have some green patches and some have what appears to be green budding, however, they have been there for a few weeks and show no further sign of developing.
I've done some reading and I'm wondering if they're suffering from root rot?  We've had torrential rain all winter and the ground is sodden.
I've posted a few photos below.  Can anything be done for these or are they beyond help?

I think they're suffering the effect of weather. I've seen a lot of Hebes like that recently. Personally I'd have the out and start again. A lot of plants put on new growth well into Autumn last year and when the cold hit they could take it

I agree . They often die over winter here, and that's just weather. They need good drainage, but they can usually cope if the drainage is good enough. They don't always come back after cutting back here either.
It might be worth doing that, but it depends how you feel about them. When they're half dead like that, it isn't easy as the only option is usually cutting them back all over.

I had one which half died some years ago. I've just moved it, so that the dead half is against the front steps of the house, and it looks ok there now.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thanks thats helpful.  I might try cutting some of them back and see what happens.
