Is it safe to plant outside now?

Hi, I live on Dartmoor. Ive been moving my plants indoors in the evenings. (carrots [in guttering], beans, string beans, leeks, swede, tomatoes)
Do you think the risk of frost is over? What do you think @Lyn ? Do you think I can get them in the veg beds now?
Thanks

I would think carrots, leek and swede would be OK but wouldn't put beans and tomatoes out until after Devon County Show (mid May) I live near Exeter.

Runner beans and tomatoes get tetchy if night time temperatures drop below 10° C. I’d cosset them for three more weeks.

I'd have thought far too early anywhere for tomatoes and beans outside. It's night time temps that matter with toms. They need consistent temps in double figs.

Like me, I don't think @Lyn grows toms outside at all. Too unreliable weather wise.

@tuffnelljohn.  I can’t grow tomatoes outside but you’re in a warmer part than me, even so, I wouldn’t put yours out yet.
Definitely not runner beans,  I won’t be sowing mine till mid May.
I don’t grow swedes but they’re usually best sown in situ,  root veg are not keen on transplanting,  same with carrots,  you could plant them out now but I’m not sure if they’ll be successful,  have you grown them like that before?
    .
When you put your carrots in you need to make a hole with a prodder at least 6” deep,  so to make sure there are no stones or lumps of soil, gently fill with compost and plant.

with the leeks you prod the 6”  hole, drop the leeks in, after cutting off some of the long roots then leave them, don’t cover.  They’ll be fine.

Ah! Thats a good date to remember. I seem to remember my old neighbors - ex-farmers who had a substantial veg plot - saying something similar.

Worth a try,  a lot of things that old gardener have always done,  and what we’ve followed on with are now being dispelled as myths,  so wait and see, let us know how they got on and perhaps show us the results at harvest.
I don’t know why, they as gardeners, have trouble germinating seeds in situ?
