Planter soil/compost mix?

Hi

Just got some planters in the garden to grow carrots, onions, beetroots etc.

They're around 170 litre capacity. I've been wondering what to fill them with trying to keep costs down. Will a mix of garden soil, mp compost and perlite be okay to use. I was thinking something like a 50/50 mix with some added perlite?

Thanks

I often use garden soil to bulk up larger containers. With annuals I usually fill the bottom half of containers with a mixture of soil and spent compost as the roots don't usually get down that far in one season anyway. Anything to cut costs! Probably depends on the plants though and whether the roots will penetrate that far.
