Would sunflowers grow in this?

I just had someone come and move my winter manure piles (mule poo and pine shavings).  One pile was actually manure from the last three winters, so it's well-rotted and very moist.  There is about an 8-10 inch layer left in an area about 30 feet long by three feet wide, and it gets sun for at least 6 hours or more.  It's a bit of an eyesore right now (not to mention quite pungent!), and I was thinking of scattering sunflower seeds in it, but would they even grow in that sort of environment?  I usually plant squash and pumpkin seeds directly into manure and they do very well, but I'd like something a little brighter that I can see from the house.

I'd have thought so @CrankyYankee as they like rich soil and full sun.   The RHS has this to say - https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/helianthus/growing-guide

I think I might sow them in modules or small pots tho before planting out in your rich poo mix.
