No show potatoes

This is our third year of growing potatoes.  I always use Maris Piper and I planted the seed potatoes in exactly the same way as I have previously done.  It's now over three weeks since we planted the potatoes and the result is nothing showing:

I can't remember exactly how long took the previous crops to show above the soil but I'm getting a bit concerned that something has gone wrong.  Am I worring too soon?

As long as they haven't got too wet and rotted they should grow in their own sweet time. You could have a little furtle around and investigate if you're not good at patience :)

If you’re that worried just scrape back the top soil and have a quick peek
  • Thanks bcpathome and jennyJfor the suggestion of having a look - i'd never have thought of it

I'll leave it a few more days and then have to do something.

If the potato crop has failed then it could solve another problem - i planted beans and peas in shallow troughs which posters here said were not deep enough so this would free up some space for these.

This is the third year of gardening following my retirement and there's a bit more to it than first appears

Yes it’s not as easy as you think is it? But when it all comes good ……oh the satisfaction!

OH says that lettuce and rocket hasn't done much yet.

We live at almost 750 feet on the edge of the Pennines and it's been one of the coldest springs that we can remember.  Earlier in the week it was -3C one night and today the temperature is under 10c and we still have a very cold northerly wind which makes it feel colder.

At least we have the greenhouse sorted.  We like to try something different each year.  The other week I heard that there was a shortage of peppers due to bad weather around The Med.  This gave me an idea. We now have ten pepper plants potted up, a load of herbs and four cucumber plants in the greenhouse.
