Hi there.

over the weekend a plot of land around 20x20m has been completely covered in what look like saplings!?

2inches tall, two green and two reddish leaves.

No idea what they are!!

What trees do you have nearby?
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • Cherry blossom, oak, there was an ash but had die back, hawthorn, and roan berry.

    I'd say sycamore seedlings
    Devon.

I was going to say the same, since we get so many. We get lots in our garden. I gently ease them out of the ground.

There's been loads reported on the forum recently -it appears to have been a mast year for sycamores/maples.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thanks all for the responses.  Am I right in assuming that they can be pricked out and re-potted? It's a school, so could plant them elsewhere if this was the case.

My sycamore seedlings have green leaves but maybe they are some sort of acer, trees anyway. I wouldn't pot them on unless you want to leave a future generation some whopping great trees. But maybe you do.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Sycamore seedlings can often have a reddish colour in the young leaves.

Please be aware that they can be very toxic for horses and ponies.

It's always a mast  or sycamores
location: Surrey Hills, England, ex-woodland acidic sand.

    No idea what that means.
How can you lie there and think of England
