Viburnum Eve Price

Carol195Carol195 Posts: 9
I’m considering doing a new bed in the garden. We live in Yorkshire, on a hill facing the Pennines so can be reasonably windy.
I’m wondering if viburnum Eve Price would be suitable? I’ve never had a viburnum but  for the centre,I’m wanting something that is evergreen and with flowers.
Also thinking of putting some box balls in the bed then adding bulbs for spring and summer. The garden is south west facing but cold winds in winter. Does this sound ok or any other suggestions would be welcome. Thanks

Hi @Carol195 - I'm sure it would be fine, but the only thing I'd say  is - what else is around  the new bed? If it's open and exposed, that won't be easy. If it's within an already enclosed garden that's different, as there's a degree of shelter from the prevailing winds   :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Hi @FairygirlThe garden is long so it’s a bed to break up the area. There is a high hedge, approximately 9 ft but the garden is on a slope. The house is to the side of the new bed so gives some protection if the wind is blowing from the west and is more sheltered from the east due to mature trees across the road.

Should be fine then - they're pretty tough shrubs  :)

If you're planting soon  - just make sure it's well watered over the  next few months. Wind can dry plants out as readily as sun and heat  :)
Good luck with it though. A healthy, well sized specimen should establish well over the next 6 months or so  :)

Viburnum tinus is pretty tough, I've used it as a windbreak. Eve Price is a pretty one as it has pink flowers. It will get quite big but can be pruned.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

We have some outside the office at work. They’re healthy and thriving and they are battered by the winds from the North Sea. 👍🏼

@Fairygirl thanks, will definitely keep it watered

@Busy-Lizzie that’s good to know, thank you, I think it says three meters which would’ve a little too big but I’m happy to prune it back. Height isn’t a problem but wouldn’t want it so wide.

@TheGreenMan, sounds like it needs to be hardy where you are. Windy here but at least it’s not battered by the sea breeze  :)
