Climbers

Hi  I have not long moved, and the soil in this area is clay.  I have a wooden south/east facing fence at the bottom of my garden that I would like to cover with a climber, preferably a fragrant one.  Have you any advise please?

Where are you located @lindathompson541 ? That's a big factor in your choices. Many will recommend the star jasmine, for example, but it isn't hardy everywhere. If the soil hasn't been cultivated well, it may need some improvement too, to ensure drainage is ok etc   :)
I expect plenty of roses will be fine but I don't grow those. There's a rose thread though, so you'll get advice there about them. I'll find the link for you.

Here you go - you can ask for varieties to try etc

We are on clay soil and this year our clematis armandii is out of the world. It is everygreen and very fragrant. We have it growing up a low wall which has a trellis made from bamboos from our garden. If it gets to vigorous we do prune it back.

@lindathompson541 I love R Warm Welcome slightly fragrant. The roses experts as @Fairygirl has mentioned are the ones to ask.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
