Want to do something with my small lawn

We have this patch of grass that I would really like to utilise. Perhaps another border? Pergola at the top near shed? It’s very shady up there. I have posted a pic of what it looks like now. Any ideas how I can e ncorporate some design while leaving existing g path as husband would go mental if I changed it

Members of this forum, amongst others, persuaded me to get rid of my small and underused lawn. I'm going to recommend the same to you. Imagine the planting possibilities! You can keep a bit of the area gravelled for walking through and seating, as per the photo below (Hauser and Wirth gallery in Somerset).

Absolutely agree. It's such a small area it really isn't worth having grass - takes longer to get a mower out and put it away than it would to cut it! The shady aspect also makes it harder to keep healthy.
Lots of planting at different heights,  and gravel in between would be lovely, and much easier to care for. Don't worry about it being shady either - plenty of plants for all year round interest will work. If you want to encourage birds and wildlife, that would be easy too - a small pond or water feature for them, and plenty of cover and sites for feeders etc.
Rather than a pergola, a simple screen for climbers would possibly be better, and would create less dense shade, but still hide the shed.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

@char63 I love the design that @Loxley has drawn. This is in my opinon the way forward and also easy maintenance. I would include some tall plants and keep the planting simple. Works well in a small space.
