Just buy a plant. They strike readily from cuttings so one plant can go a long way. If you are near Nottingham I'm happy to let you have some self seeded baby plants, I always have a few lurking in the tops of pots.

I took some dead seed heads off our Verbena Bons last year and just kept them in an envelope, in a tin, in the sideboard over winter. I can't remember exactly, but within the last two months, I sowed some in three small seed trays and left them on our kitchen windowsill.( lids on and kitchen window facing east). I left them for weeks and weeks ( the only caring I did was to water them) and one morning, I came down and saw 100's  of teeny weeny seedlings popping through the sowing compost. Since then, they have been thinned out, germinated into their third and fourth true leaves. I have potted up a dozen into three inch pots and just today, have finally had enough of them inside and have put them in the greenhouse. It has taken weeks for them to germinate, so I would keep trying as you never know. However, I have only kept the strongest looking and many have gone the journey🤫

Picture taken 12/4/23 and have grown on since then.

If you still have seed @davidpritchard195 - just sow more in a month or 6 weeks, outdoors in pots or trays.  :)

If you have paving slabs in a sunny situation, drop a few seeds between the cracks. That's where most of mine germinate🙄

B3 read my mind. Sowing between cracks might be a problem, but you could try sowing in a row between two old quarry tiles or slabs. The tiles warm up in the sun but also help keep the soil moist (which is why they come up in people's patios!)

Sow them now and they will probably come up without the need for fridge treatment.

That's right. Make them think they're being a pain in the path😉

  • Mine from the GW magazine took 3 weeks to germinate (indoor windowsill, south facing) and now about 2 weeks later are approx 5-10mm high and some have tiny second set of leaves. About 10 out of about 36 germinated. I plan to chuck some seed somewhere outside in May and see if that works better.
