Good advice from Fairy (obviously 😉) I personally wouldn't remove buds. We've had some in pots well over 20 years, have ended up having to be reported at the "wrong" time of the year owing to house move. One thing I would add,is keep them out of full sun. At the end of the day, they are Japanese woodland plants, but when they are moved even more important. Ours are rarely fed, don't use extra iron. They're in a mix of topsoil and ericaceous compost. Every spring, pots are weeded and given a top dress of the compost. Rainwater....lots
  • We’ve moved and repotted them, they weighed an absolute ton!

I did just remove a few of the buds that weren’t yet open, prob was only about 20% of the leaves / buds. I cut them right at the base of the bud.

Will give them lots of rain water. Pls let me know if you think I need to do anything else with them.

Also should I cut off what appears to be the dead branches from last year or leave them til next year?

    Thanks everyone for your help
