Budelia Poorly

Hello; my Budelia plant looks poorly. Anyone know what it is and what to do? Many thanks.

Never seen leaf curl on a buddleia before but whenever I've had it on other plants it's always been temporary and the plant has recovered. Maybe Google reasons for leaf curl?
  • Thanks for your reply. I'm thinking it's mildew and the misshapen leaves are symptom. I'll see if anyone posts anything else but I probably will hack it down.

It can happen due to variable weather, or to aphid activity, but they rarely succumb to it. It's unsightly more than anything.
It should have been cut back by now though - they flower on the new wood produced, so if it isn't cut back in spring, you'll end up with a very large shrub, with most of the flowers very high up.
The existing foliage will usually get shed, but it'll produce new foliage on the new wood which should be fine.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I’m just cutting mine right back now, I would do the same if I were you,  they’ll recover and probably be ok.
As low as you like. They love a good prune back.

  • Thanks for your advice. I'll get pruning in the morning! It's a very large plant that I bought from Homebase (half dead) three years ago for 27p. So, I have a bit of a connection with it. Hope it survives. Many thanks again.

They're quite hard to kill, so it's unlikely to turn up it's toes  ;)
