I just had a coral bark Sango Kaku planted a week ago. I see a large branch (about 1.5 inch thick) is black & this section is not blooming leaves. It appears dead with buds that haven’t opened. Is this pseudomonas or VW? Or could this just be from an intense freeze? If it is diseased, what do I need to do? How to avoid spread to my other plants.
I agree - and definitely ask for a refund if you only planted it a week ago. It was clearly affected when you bought, or acquired, it. It also looks like a very mature specimen, so I'm guessing it wasn't cheap, which is even worse.
Are you somewhere other than the UK though @caseyritchhart? You mentioned an intense freeze, which suggests you're not here as we're now beyond severe weather and Acers can withstand lots of cold weather anyway
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Cut one of the black dead branches off and look for the black streaks in the stem where the cut was made. Cut back to a healthy stem
