Having a new (to me) garden, something else has appeared. Seems to be a climber with a strong, thick reddish stem at the moment about 6'. Pictures of leaf and leaves which are all it has at present. Single leaf is about 2" long. Any ideas please? Thank you

It looks rather like a baby oak tree. Maybe @Silver surfer would know.

I agree the leaf is oak like but it's definitely a climber (I've had oak trees).

    I think it's a Honeysuckle

Ah, thank you @nutcutlet . Japanese honeysuckle. Didn't look far enough down on "images" of honeysuckle.

Apparently pretty invasive so I'd better try to dig it out from the bottom of a very mixed and prickly hedge. Wish me luck.

    Fascinating.
Never  seen  Lonicera...a honeysuckle with leaves like an oak!

I agree about the honeysuckle. It wends its way around the plants down the end of my garden. Flowers a bit.

Is it unusual? I thought it was just your regular mild PITA

I've never seen that either. Is it a  less hardy one or something ?
