Leggy Alderman peas

Hi,  I'm  growing Alderman peas and have started them off indoors.  They are looking a bit leggy.  Wondering whether to  plant them deeper or pinch out the tops.  Does anyone have any advice please?   Hopefully going to plant out tomorrow, if this wind dies down.   😀

I’d pinch them out … don’t know how leggy they are but I usually pinch them out leaving just 3 or 4 nodes.

they need more light and you can put them out
if it  is past the frost date. no need to pinch them
out unless you plan on eat the pinched stems.

IME pinching out pea seedlings  results in a heavier crop … traditionally farmers will roll the field of peas when just a couple of inches tall … this will bruise the growing tip and stimulate the development of sideshoots resulting in a sturdier bushier plant with lots of nodes to produce flowers and pods.
It’s worth trying @Wargarden … perhaps do a comparative study if you’re growing enough?

  • Dovefromabove studies have shown just opposite
    of your claims.
  • Thank you for the replies, my variety is a tall one (Alderman) growing to 5ft + would pinching out  stop them getting to their full expected height?

No it only makes them wider and bushier

Dovefromabove studies have shown just opposite
    of your claims.
And many years of experience has provided evidence of the opposite.

You pays your money and takes your choice 😉
