Acer tree

Hi.. I’m after some advice please, not sure my 23rd year old acer is slowly dying, the leaves have just started to come out over the last few days but for some strange reason the middle section has no new buds or leaves on it, some of the branches are dead which I’ve now pruned but some of the look the right colour (purple) but with a hint of brown nearer the main trunk. Typically this is right in the middle of the tree so cutting this section out will leave a great big gap in the middle
is the anything that can be done to help it? Thanks Rachel

Wait and watch.  But pruning the dead branches out may be the only answer.
