Peat Free compost

Has anyone got any tips on how to improve peat free compost please?  I'm finding that some of my seeds are struggling to germinate!

    Welcome to the forum.
    Avoiding it is my advice

  • I mix mine with home-produced compost, a little topsoil and sand.

There have been various previous discussions about this; a search will help.  Personally I add grit  when sowing seeds.  For potting on and pots in general I add my own compost and grit.

It's not so good without peat.  I add vermiculite to aid rewetting and compacting.  Except fpr seed, I use mostly my home compost and leafmould.

"Struggling to germinate" might not be down to the compost.
