Growing Paris Market carrots and Cherry Falls tomatoes in containers

Hi

My 3 veg beds are already taken, so Im going to grow some more veg in containers.

With this in mind, I bought some Paris Market carrots and Cherry Falls tomato seeds.

How shallow container would you say I could get away with? Ive got a couple of containers which are 20cm deep, and some hanging baskets (the sort that you see hanging on people porches with flowers in).

Do you think these are ok, or so I need to find deeper containers?

Thanks

I think you might get away with 20cm deep containers for the Paris Market carrots, since they’re small and round and don’t have much of a tap root below. I’ve always gardened on clay and they are the only carrots I have successfully grown, although a lighter free-draining compost and plenty of drainage holes is preferable.

I’ve never grown tumbing type toms in a hanging basket, but apparently you can - would need a lot of supplemental feeding and regular watering I imagine, as erratic watering and/or drying out inbetween waterings is the enemy of tomatoes, plus a hanging basket doesn’t hold much compost to feed them over the full growing cycle.
