Plant ID for our new garden 😍

Hello folks,

We have been trying to buy our first home for a while and finally have moved in!

I am very excited about having our own garden.

The back garden is east facing, clay soil and looks out onto a field. There is a good sized west facing front garden which also gets a lot of sun for the house.

Just now I am looking to ID the plants in the back garden and wonder if anyone could help?

I want to learn as much about what is already here as possible. Soon I will take photos of what is out front.

If you have any care tips for these two id love to know!

The garden has been neglected somewhat but someone who liked to garden has lived here sometime in the past as it has some shape to it :).
Thank you!

Hi @rosehenderson90, welcome to the forum. How exciting to have your first garden.

Can't help with first two as a bit indistinct.

    3. Might be a cotoneaster
    4. Hebe
    5. Possibly just a random seedling
    6. Looks like Box
    7. Crocosmia
    8. Possibly a Rhododendron

I'm sure others will be able to help better.

    Great, thank you @lizzie27!

I am looking these up now and learning what conditions they like as they seem to grow happily in the garden, this will be great knowledge for me!

  • Hello, well done on getting your new home. Mine is also back garden east facing onto a field and west front garden. We get alot of seeds from the field come in, last year we had a few bits of barley!
I only know 4 and 7 which are covered above. With 7 you can pull out all of the yellow brown leaves and the plant will have bring orange flowers against the wall in about July.
  • That sounds lovely @Thistleandrose, I hope you're getting lots of joy from your gardens!

Thank you, I will pull out all the brown bits. We are getting the sun tomorrow so that will give me a nice job to focus on!

I think the tall plant in the pot in picture 5 might be a type of Cotoneaster.
  • Thanks @AnniD!
