I had one courtesy of one of those annoying magazines that drop through the door with predictable monotony (Scotts/Coopers).  Split hose in next to no time.
Then I bought a (more expensive) Hozelock one - two seasons on (drained and stored frost free over winter) and it's still going strong.
I think the main thing is to get one that is longer than you need, so it isn't stretched to reach the furthest corner of the garden, and be assiduous in draining it and curling it up after every use.
(I may have to eat my words this coming season - though in Devon we are in a hosepipe ban as from next week! )  [sigh]

Mine split in the first year.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
