I've got Tulip 'Ben Van Zanten' in a plastic pot in an old wooden pail and they are flowering now - their third year.  (Something else behind - not sure what.  Ballerina?).

Going over now; I'll chop their heads off, give them a feed and leave them and see what happens next year!

"It feels like a hello from him every time they come back." That's so sweet (: Made me smile.

@didyw Yes Ballerina. I always think it should be pink not orange!

Thanks folks for your comments. As always been a learning exercise for me.

Will store them and re-plant, see what happens. I had no idea what colours would pop out, ended up with a mixture. Being a first time tulip grower, I am just delighted to see them bloom. Will try and pick tulips from a catalogue next time not a random purchase. I prefer a single colour per pot, red will be a must have.

Apeldoorn looks lovely. Will had that to my list.

I used to have great success with perennial tulips in pots (lifting and storing) but a couple of years ago they succumbed to Tulip Fire so I had to start again with fresh bulbs and compost.
Best of luck with yours. Tulips are beautiful flowers.

    I'm the same - I don't like mixed colours in a pot either  :)
Browse the online catalogues of reliable sellers for lots of choice - P. Nyssen, Farmer Gracy, Broadleigh etc, for loads of choices.
Oh -and get ready to remortgage  your house because the list will be so long!  :D

I think some of the "curated " mixes you see on the aspirational websites (Sarah Raven type) can look quite good but I am a sucker for a pretty picture.

That's exactly the power of advertising @alfharris8 ;)
I had a nice group of them in a pot several years ago @Dovefromabove, and a few managed to survive and flowered again after being planted in a bed - which I've now largely removed, so many bulbs were potted up. I can get them all together again in a bed, now that I can see where the moved ones are. Great colour  :)
