Tulip Fire?

Hi all. Does this look like Tulip Fire? I'd previously dismissed this as frost damage, as it's affecting all our tulips this year, but it seems to be getting worse.

It does look like it but it could also be another virus. I'd discard the affected tulips and not plant tulip in that position for a while grow them in pots instead
  • Thanks, guess I'll be getting the trowel out  :(

I've been looking at some other posts in the forum on the subject and came across someone with the problem who'd got their bulbs from J Parkers, which is where ours came from. Thinking back, I think a couple did have some mould on them. Can't believe I was stupid enough to plant them. Lesson learned!

It is not unusual for Tulip bulbs to have a little mould on them, if it wipes off they will be fine, and the mould does not cause Tulip Fire.
How can you lie there and think of England

  • I've started digging them out. It's definitely a fungal disease, as the dead plant material produced little puffs of spores when disturbed. I hope it is Tulip Fire, as my soil is well and truly contaminated now, whatever it is. Interestingly the bulbs themselves looked very healthy. I'm starting to wonder whether it could have been contaminated compost I added in February.

You can grow something else there as it only affects tulips.

  • Yeah, that's why I hope it is Tulip Fire! I'm going to plant some irises I think.
