Two toddler hummingbird hawk moths

Today I spotted two tiny hummingbird hawk moths, about the size of my thumbnail, visiting  Veronica umbra. Both were much smaller than the adults seen last summer and autumn. It's the first time I've seen such young ones and so early. Perhaps I just overlooked them in previous years. They are wonderful to see, if a foreboding of the changing climate.

Have a look at bee flies and see if they look similar. Moths pupate at full size so it's likely to be something else.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I saw one a few days ago and assumed they were just a smaller type of humming bird hawk moth.  Not being able to make a direct comparison with what I saw, I think @wild edges might be right.

Oh wow to repeat a comment from the linked thread above. Thank you all, that must be it. I seemed they hover while feeding just like the hawk moth does, but I haven't found confirmation for that yet.
