Veronica gentianoides issue

Should this Veronica be buried deeper in the soil? It looks like I can see some of the rhizomes? Also how do I go about dividing it? Should I dig it up and try to gently prise it apart or just take a shovel and split it down the centre?

Thanks!

@omghiomg_123 It may have been buried by the mulch and died back. No flowers this year but dig it up it is easy to split into small pieces if you wish. I would start again with a group of the good pieces they will soon grow in together. There is a lovely form called 'Tissington White'.

Thanks! Should I split it with a spade or just tease it apart by hand?

I would start by teasing it apart by hand and if that is difficult then cut it with a knife or secateurs.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

@omghiomg_123 It will come apart with ease, each small piece that is green will grow but do water if dry at least until it starts to regrow and if dry for weeks to come.

  • @GardenerSuze thanks!
  • They tend to run around like this so are better divided every three years or so--you can seize the moment to improve the soil and weed underneath! A very pretty plant.
  • @Cambridgerose12 Ok will do 😁 I don’t think it’s ever flowered very well where it is, probably too shady, so will put one bit of the division somewhere sunnier.
