Growing beans advice

Hi. I’m going to try grow some beans this year; first time for everything! Had a bit of old trellis thinking could grow/tie beans into; making most of my limited space and screwed onto my bed but will that work or is the wigwam approach more suitable? Thank you.

You certainly can grow them on a fence/trellis.
I used to do just that on a west-facing fence -

Make sure the trellis is well supported as it'll be supporting a lot of weight, and in gusty conditions it will act like a sail, so make sure it's sturdy.

Thanks. I did/do have concerns about it’s sturdiness. Prevailing wind direction isn’t always great here but nothing ventured!! Cheers.

Another option with longer lasting structure, mine 10 years and counting, is a 'pit' with 24 plants in a square format, 3ft x 3ft.  Pic attached.

As I only want a few, I grow just 6 or so in a large pot with vertical canes wired to keep them apart in a circle. I find with wigwams it gets too crowded at the top. I like that idea @nick615 if you like a lot of beans.

Horses for courses really, SueAtoo.  We all do what suits us best.  We're totally fed up with them by the end of summer, but we can always use the beans themselves in stews and casseroles - and we're never short of seed.

PS -  Inside what you see is an 8ft plastic pole with a wheelchair wheel fixed to the top to keep my 'STYX' apart.
