Few blossoms on cherry tree

Chichi_7Chichi_7 Posts: 28
I planted a Kiku-shidare-zakura last autumn following the guidance from the place I bought it from. This spring it does have blossoms but only on the lower branches and not that many, all in all it looks pretty sad compared to pictures online. Any advice? We were told it probably wouldn’t flower this year as it’s still being established so not sure if this could be why? It’s planted in the ground so roots are unrestricted.

Thanks!

Its roots may be unrestricted but it can take a couple of years for the fine hair-like roots that absorb nutrition and moisture to establish enough in a new site to support the top growth properly.  You were told it probably wouldn't flower this year so unless you have concerns about the health of the tree I wouldn't be worried.

If you are concerned about the health of your tree perhaps you could post a photo of what concerns you and we'll see if we can spot anything alarming.

Ah great thank you for this! I’ll try to be more patient and let it settle in more

Newly planted trees may not be at their best in their first or second year. They will pick and make up for lost time the following year.
I wish I could garden all year round!
