What's Killing my laurel

Hey everyone, I have a laurel hedge, maybe 30/40 years hold, about 20 ft long and 2m high,

I am loosing 1  - 2 per of the hedges season, the leaves are going like the image below, then they die and fall off. The plants lots of vines interwoven over the years, and I have cut a log of these back.    There is a white 'mold' /  powder on the trunk but not on the leaves?

I have tried water / grow more, running out of options!

I hope it's not honey fungus.  If the plant dies, the leaves die.

  • I do get a cluster of mushrooms pop up in the garden annually but no wear near the laurel, having googled the issue you mention 'honey fungus'  another sign is cracked bark, guess what, I have that to.  Its not looking good is it.

Honey fungus mushrooms pop up anywhere from the roots.  But usually in a dense cluster at the base of the trunk.

Peel a bit of bark off and have a look.  Also dig up a few trial patches about a spit deep; look for the "bootlaces".

There are few cures.  But they don't like cultivation, possibly not an option.  Fingers crossed.
