    I'd probably do what @GardenerSuze suggested and put an attractive pot in that location, either planted or as a stand alone feature.  Although it's a sun lover, Erigeron karvinskianus will flower happily in a pot in shade.  I have one in a pot on a rather unstable step in a shady corner of my garden.  It really lights up the space from April to December.

    Thank you for all your helpful ideas. I did think of a gate, as that’s a project I might enjoy working on, so that’s definitely an idea I’m considering.

    I will probably start with a pot and obelisk, maybe move one of the pots  with clematis I already have and see how that looks like. 

    I might even experiment with one of the statues I have and see how that looks.

    I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
