Help with my Hydrangea Bush

Hi everyone I need some help with my Hydrangea bush I grew it from a  clipping of my nans bush back in 2019 and it was doing fine and there was plenty of growth up until last year where as you can see in the picture the leaves are quite sparce. I know the new leaves are just coming in but it was like this in summer last year as well. Is there anything I can do for it to get it flourishing again?

It's probably not very happy in a pot. Hydrangeas like to be in the ground so if you can plant it in a spot that deosn't dry out and that doesn't get blazing hot sun all day then it should perk up. Give it a bit of a trim when you plant it out. There is invaluable advice here: https://www.gardenersworld.com/how-to/grow-plants/how-to-grow-hydrangeas/
    Nice cat by the way.

I agree, your plant needs to be in the ground or, if that’s not possible, a larger pot.  If you want it to flower this year, don’t be too enthusiastic with the pruning as I think your plant is a variety of H. Macrophylla which flowers on the previous year’s wood.
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.

A potted plant of any kind, but especially a shrub, needs a lot more attention than in the ground - mainly decent soil which needs a bit of refreshing every year or so. A slow release food is useful too, as the nutrients are also more limited in a pot. A bigger pot is a good idea if you can't plant it out for any reason.

I'd find a better site for it though- off the ground, sort all that growing medium out, and look at the pruning, but that's dependent on the type, as the others have said  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
