I'd say that was a Fiscus.

    Pic turned.
Shrub has a single red berry on it.
    Thinking.

Silver surfer thanks, when I saw from Perthshire it reminded me of the Radio DJ who died some time back (lovely bloke) and he always said on his introduction "from Perthshire" can't remember his name?

A variegated Photinia, no new leaves at present? So many possibles I assume you thought it would climb a Jasmine?Too slow growing to be a Laurel? Leucothoe? Truth is not sure.

My first thought was a Leucothoe, as my Photinia has never produced a berry.

Another possibility, could it be an Italian Buckthorn? Rhamnus Alaternus 'Argenteovariegata'. They're not fast growers.

    Pic trimmed again.

     That's it. Thanks.
    Been bugging me.
Recognised the marking on the  leaves...but for life of me couldn't think of the name!

Grew it in South Wales successfully.
Tried it here twice and lost them both. Too cold. Real shame.
The leaf patterns are so varied and interesting.
    Main vein very prominent.

Wonderful! New to me I would never have got an ID. I know of Sea Buckthorn as I once had a thorn in my head[not nice] nothing like an Italian Buckthorn.
