Help! Standard rose dieback?

I bought a potted full standard rose and it had red shoots coming from the grafted stems.  I bought it in Februray during the mild spell we had which i beleive encouraged the new shoots to grow.  Following this we had a very cold spell, strong winds and a very wet March.  Now the rose is in a state of dormancy, it hasn't grown or produced any leaves.  There is some dieback on the tips of the stems.  Can i save this?

It's obviously had a bit of a slow down with the cold weather but it still looks ok.

I'd just cut off the end bits that have gone black/brown.

Is it still in a pot?

  • Hi,

I bought a new pair of secateurs and gave it a bit of a prune.  I just cut the dead or dying bits off as you suggested.

It is still in the pot which it came in, I think it was last seasons stock as I bought it very cheap from B&Q in February.  I have no idea of what type of rose it is, I'm assuming its red because of the colour of the new shoots, we will see.  I do plan to plant it in the next few days.

I can’t see what you are complaining about . It looks perfectly normal to me . Just get it planted and fed and a good water  . It’s fine .
