Hedge for shady area under a sycamore tree
in Plants
I'm looking to plant a hedge under a large mature pollarded sycamore tree (Acer pseudoplatanus) in an exposed site in South Cumbria - so must tolerate shade and some wind. Preferably fast growing and evergreen. I've not tested it under the sycamore tree but generally the soil is well drained loam, slightly acidic. Grateful for any suggestions.

Googled it was a weigela but not one of the fancy ones. Small single flowers.
- evergreen
- shade tolerant
- grows pretty quick
- can be pruned back hard
- creamy-white flowers for pollinators
An evergreen hedge will be even more difficult to establish at this time of year than planting in autumn as bare root
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
East facing, top of a hill clay-loam, cultivated for centuries (7 years by me). Birmingham
