I did fall for the hype once and bought large Strawberry starts ( no idea which variety now) were they big, no, but they did do well and years later I am still growing them from runners I plant up each autumn to replace about a third each year. 🙂
  • thanks @purplerallim do you grow in raised beds? We have a few rabbits around us and think the little blighters would go mad for some strawberry's

Yes as my mobility is restricted , no kneeling, I have the beds at knee height and they work fine

I got some strawberry seeds recently but nothing at all has happened, not sure what I did wrong. My grandad used to grow them successfully but I found out recently he used to get small plants rather than grow from seeds.

Strawberries are usually grown from the year before s runners . Either that or bought plants . I never knew anyone who grew from seed .

You can grow alpine strawberries (with small fruit) quite easily from seed, but named varieties of large-fruited strawberries will be hybrids, and so won't be the same as the parents if grown from seed, @EB123.  Your best bet is to buy small plants, or beg some rooted "runners" from a friend.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
