@Palustris Not sure with close inspection I would know the difference between adult Vine and Pea Weevils[not entirely sure I want to, they all make a horrable crunch if squashed]
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

After spending the last 40 or so years fighting the dreaded vine weevils, one gets to know these things. Wish I didn't though.
Thing which amuses me about this post is somemone planting something I have spent the last few weeks trying to get rid of. Perennial peas are a real thug plant.

I agree Palustris. They’re plants that shouldn’t be planted in the open. I have had good result putting them between shrubs so they have a lot of competition and will grow more sparingly through the branches. Without tough competitor plants they will take over.

Yes the roots go down to Australia. What a shame they don't smell the same as annual sweet peas. Although the flowers of both are great for a vase.

Hedgehogs really REALLY like crunchy weevils of every kind. I fed a rescue of mine some vine weevils and he was so happy. Do open your garden up to hedgehogs and they will help you out.

Just potted on my strawberry plants,  vine weevils favourite food,  as usual hundreds of them,  and …..they’re growing their legs now,  so take care if you’re plagued with them.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

We are doing everything we can to encourage hedgehogs (holes under the fences, we have a pond, hedgehog house full of lovely dry leaves) but we're on a new build estate which is basically still a building site and they haven't made it here yet, as far as we can tell.
I have complained to the place I bought it so I'll see what happens. Obviously, they can't do anything about the fact that their plants have introduced a pest into the garden, but the plants weren't cheap and I want my money back as they are basically trashed.
