How to keep my seedlings moist and hydrated when away

I am a newbie gardener and this year for the first time I have planted my own seeds! They have grown, but (perhaps I should have thought about this before planting my seeds), how can I keep them alive when I am way for a week for work? I don't want them to die. I can't ask anyone to water them. Thank you.

  • Do gravel trays do the work? How do I make sure I don't overwater my seedlings. Thank you so much in advance, Zara.

Capillary matting might be worth considering.

How many seed trays do you need to worry about, and what are you growing ?
    Where they sown fairly recently?
  • Thank you. I will google them right away. I am growing cosmos, strawflowers, petunias, pansies and some sweet peas :-) I got a bit carried away and now they all seem to be growing!  Thank you again.

You can sow some more cosmos when you get back. They germinate really quickly.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

Are they in shallow trays? I would pot them on into deeper compost, and sit them in trays on capillary matting or old towels, water well and put them somewhere cool indoors away from sun.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • Thank you. They are in shallow seed trays but I will pot them on and hope they survive. I was getting so excited that I managed to grow my own. Hope I can save them. Thank you again.
