Career in horticulture

Hi,

I'm partially sighted so can beer drive, reading previous discussions it seems unless you have a driving license or get a job at a really prestigious house eg NT EH then you can't make it in the industry.  I'm 26 this year and have no definited career path and trying to find something I enjoy but also I can ln live off.  Just keep getting hit with the same problem.  Transport and compulsory drivers licence.

Wondering if there is anyone in a similar situation or has experience or some kind with similar difficulties.

As far as l can tell, the majority of opportunities for partially sighted gardeners seem to consist of volunteering work, so l can appreciate your frustration.

Whereabouts in the UK are you ? ( Just a general location will do). That will give some idea of your transport options, as someone in London will have better access than someone in Cornwall for instance.

What type of horticulture do you wish to get involved with, and apart from the National Trust and English Heritage is there anywhere else you have tried?

The only member of the forum with vision problems that l am of is @pansyface, but hopefully if anyone can help they will come forward  :)

A lot of the larger Landscaping firms offer apprenticeship and local employment schemes. For example my firm has a regular stream of apprentices working on prestigious developments across London with public travel expenses paid for (e.g. train, bus, tube). Look them up or write them some letters/emails. Here's a couple off the bat; Frosts Landscape construction Ltd (based Milton Keynes), Willerby Landscapes Ltd (based Kent),

Have you any qualifications in horticulture? If not, maybe you could look for a college course that includes day release work experience that could give you a start.
