Flies
I recently purchased a load of Basil (and Rosemary) seeds, i've planted them in seedling trays and am waiting ptiently for them to sprout (Germinate?).
Whilst waiting I seem to have acquired a fair number of vcery small flies that wander around the soil. Is ther any way to safetly get rid of these?
Thanks

They appear when the compost and air conditions are damp.
Ii get them in my propagator after i've sown seeds.
They don't usually cause any significant damage and once the seeds have germinated I keep the lid off the propagator during the day (when temps allow) which reduces humidity and the number of files decreases.
But I always have some in the greenhouse throughout the year.
There's not much you can do other then try and keep the humidity down.
PS - the sticky fly traps do help
