Looks like an achillea, don't know which one as it isn't yet in flower.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

I think you're right @Busy-Lizzie. It did look familiar. Thank you

@B3 I wondered if it was Tansy easy to tell by the smell. If you have achilllea in the garden more likely, guess it likes the drainage.

It looks a lot healthier than the ones I tried to nurture in my garden.  I'm several houses down the road so I doubt it's from my garden.

@B3 Achilleas like full sun and good drainage, if your soil is heavy not sure it will be happy.
If it is dug up need to take time to get the root.

It's not mine to dig. I've given up on them in my garden. They just limp and straggle along. Wrong plant wrong place. I have heavy clay.
There's a wide variety of plants growing between the tarmac an the front garden walls. A micro climate, I suppose.  Facing directly south, rain running down the hill and sheltered by parked cars.

I’d say it was Tansy,  a weed if you don’t like it,  a wild flower if you do.   I’m sure the bees will appreciate it when it flowers.

@B3 you might regret it not a nice smell to me.

I too would go for Tansy. And I too failed with Achilleas 😀!
