Allium globemaster

Hello, I planted this last autumn, but there is no sign of a flower stem at all. I’m wondering if I didn’t plant it deeply enough, or just a dud bulb.  I mixed in some organic matter when I planted it.

Too early for flower stems in this part of the world.
How can you lie there and think of England

I agree, alliums (particularly the larger ones) are later flowering than most spring bulbs. They produce the leaves first and they're often dying back by the time the flowers appear. Globemaster should flower in May or June depending on where you are (earlier in warmer areas).

Thanks. I’m definitely the impatient type I’ve come to realize!  Flower stem appearing now.

  • This is the stage of my globe master.

  • I planted a whole load of alliums last year. They are just starting to come through in a few places.

I'll admit that I'm impatient too, particularly for these. I've spent 20 years trying to persuade my wife that they'd be good for the garden. Last autumn I planted around 50, without her knowledge. Now she's pleased they are coming through.
