Chicken manure pellets as a soil conditioner

    That’s exactly what we’ve been doing this week,  stripped out all the plants from one border/bed covered with CP and a 3 to 4” layer of home made compost. 
    Will leaves the worms to finish the job then replant. 
    Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

    I used a product call 6X when I moved into my first 'proper' house/garden, as the soil was mainly uncultivated, clay. It's basically the same thing - concentrated chicken manure. It did a very good job in improving it - I think it's still available. Chicken manure pellets are a slightly alkaline medium, but you won't using so much that it affects the soil pH in any way. That's very hard to do anyway, long term. 

    Later, I learned to add the bulky matter that @Allotment Bay mentions, and I continue to do that as it's a far better solution for the conditions/climate I have   :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
