Spent mushroom compost

    I did expect it to contain straw @borgadr, but wondered why this would be mentioned in that way, like a warning which suggests it’s a negative, a bit like “may contain weed seeds”!

    I have never had weed seeds just the odd mushroom. I thought the mushrooms grew inside? 
    I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

    Yes @GardenerSuze, they do grow inside.  I was just using an analogy to illustrate what seemed like a health warning.  Sorry if this was unclear!

    @Plantminded Oh I see, guess straw makes up a large part of what they grow in. Some of the mushroom compost I received you could clearly see lots of straw but other batches it had more or less broken down. It didn't matter as over time it all worked it's way into the soil.

    @Plantminded I can only guess it's so that the customer is not surprised and dissatisfied when they find straw in it.
