Rhubarb leaves snapped off

I have several rhubarb plants in my garden that I thought were doing well.  Only this morning I’ve found that most of the leaves have been snapped off. Any suggestions on who the culprit might be, and any measures I can take to protect the rhubarb?

Never had that problem. Ours are growing well and have picked for some weeks now. Can't think that rabbits would be the culprit.
Could slugs/snails eating lower down on the stems?

We had a similar problem one year when we had a bird feeder nearby … the rhubarb was near a fence where the woodpigeons waited for the goldfinches to alight on the feeder and start throwing discarded seed around … the woodpigeons seemed to think that the rhubarb leaves would bear their weight as they flew down from the fence to pick up stray sunflower seeds that had landed on the leaves … they were mistaken 🙄

That explains my issue with broken rhubard leaves too  :/
I wish I could garden all year round!
