Thanks for you help here folks its very much appreciated currently we dont mind a bit of work up keeping a long boarder plus thinking it will be good for the kids to get involved
down the line i suppose we could always reduce the beds back to lawn but currently the thought of that goes very against the grain lol maybe when we are older though!

@NewnorthernIrishgardener I think @Loxley has offered great advice regarding starting near the house at first. You can always add more borders at a later date when you can see how much time you can devote to it. You will also have plants that can be lifted and split to fill out new borders in the future.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
