Hi, just wondering if any of you have top dressed you lawn before and whther you just used topsoil or one of the dressing mixtures?  I know the latter will be finer, but the main stores dont sell it - well not that I have found so far.

    If you have heavy soil a sandy mixture is better. My soil is already sandy and I topdress in a fairly slapdash way by brushing in old spent compost from containers when I have some, as a way to get rid of it while helping the lawn areas retain more moisture.
