@Slow-worm I do think you can colour clash with woody Salvia's and get away with it. Your planting comb sounds lovely.
Thank you. Yes, I don't care what colours are where - although I do place certain ones for aesthetics, normally I just find a suitable space.

On the subject of salvia cuttings, can cuttings be taken now from those salvia which did survive (for me, only white nemorosa ones and the purple caradonna,  it seems), or is it too early? I don't know how much material you need or when to do it for spring cuttings. The caradonnas are all roughly this size right now:

  • Hey there! Sorry to hear about your Hot Lips plant loss this winter, it's always tough losing a beloved plant. I've also experienced some plant loss during particularly harsh winters, and it can be frustrating.

Hot Lips is known to be a relatively hardy plant, but extreme cold temperatures and wet conditions can certainly take a toll on it. It's possible that other gardeners in your area may have also experienced similar losses this winter.

In the future, you may want to consider protecting your plants during particularly harsh winters with covers or by bringing them indoors temporarily.

However, sometimes despite our best efforts, plants can still struggle or succumb to harsh weather conditions. Don't be discouraged, and keep experimenting with new plants and techniques in your garden!
